Machinery Safety Requirements for Importing Industrial Equipment into Saudi Arabia

Machinery assessment starts with function, design, and risk—not only the commercial name. SASO distinguishes general machinery requirements and specific categories such as portable/hand-guided machinery, mobile/heavy equipment, and lifting equipment such as elevators and escalators. The correct regulatory part must be identified first.

Risk assessment and guarding

Identify mechanical, electrical, thermal, noise, vibration, and unintended-start hazards. Review guards, interlocks, emergency stops, crushing/shearing points, and safe maintenance access. CE marking alone is not enough without evidence addressing the actual machine.

Technical documentation

The file commonly includes machine description, drawings, electrical/hydraulic diagrams, components, risk assessment, reports, installation/operation/maintenance instructions, data-plate images, and a declaration where relevant. Manufacturer, model, rating, invoice, and machine must align.

JEEM and conformity route

JEEM or inspection/conformity procedures may appear for defined categories under the current scope, especially certain lifting, pressure equipment, pumps, or special-route machinery. JEEM should not be presented as universal. Verify HS code, machinery type, condition, and components through official sources and SABER.

SaberVerify maps the regulation, reviews risk and technical documentation and marking, and coordinates conformity/inspection steps with accepted parties. It does not inspect machinery or issue certificates.
