What Is the Gulf Conformity Mark?
The Gulf Conformity Mark is used within GCC conformity frameworks to demonstrate compliance with applicable Gulf technical regulations for products within scope.
For low-voltage electrical equipment and appliances, the applicable requirements are defined by the Gulf Technical Regulation for Low Voltage Electrical Equipment and Appliances, including essential safety and electromagnetic-compatibility requirements.
The Gulf Conformity Mark also applies to children’s toys within the scope of the Gulf Technical Regulation for Toys in GCC markets. The applicable route depends on the product’s classification, category, and the technical regulation that applies to it.
List 1 and List 2
Under the Gulf Technical Regulation for Low Voltage Electrical Equipment and Appliances, in-scope products are divided into List 1 and List 2, with different conformity-assessment procedures.
List 1 follows a self-compliance / internal-production-control route.
List 2 requires Gulf Type Examination involving a designated Notified Body.
The applicable route depends on the specific product classification and regulatory requirements.
List 2 product categories (per current official GSO guidance)
- Domestic electrical fans
- Refrigerators, freezers and other refrigerating or freezing equipment
- Centrifugal clothes dryers and clothes washing machines, including washer-dryers
- Food grinders and mixers, and fruit or vegetable juice extractors
- Toasters
- Electro-thermic hair-dressing apparatus and hand dryers
- Domestic electric heating apparatus
- Microwave ovens
- Ovens, cookers, cooking plates, boiling rings, grillers and roasters
- Electric instantaneous or storage water heaters and immersion heaters
- Electric smoothing irons
- Plugs, socket outlets, adaptors, cord extension sets and chargers
- Air conditioners
List 2 and the Notified Body Route
For products classified under List 2, the Gulf Technical Regulation requires Gulf Type Examination involving a designated Notified Body.
The Notified Body reviews the applicable conformity evidence within its notified scope before the relevant Gulf conformity process can proceed.
